Rustic Dog Bed – Treat your dog to a nice sleeping area and create a bed that offers support, as well as a wonderful cedar scent. Cedar wood chips, used with pieces of dense foam pieces, go a long way to give your dog day and night sweet dreams. Another advantage is that cedar repels most insects, such as ticks and fleas. Whichever design you use for the bed, make sure it’s easy to disassemble and clean quickly in the washer and dryer.
Measure your dog while lying down and add approximately 6 to 8 inches out of the body. Your dog should rest comfortably in the middle of the bed. Cut out the pantyhose legs and use the legs to stuff in your cedar shavings. Therefore, the chips are contained but the aroma of cedar is allowed to filter. If you do not have stockings, use the tulle instead of making sacks of envelopes containing the cedar shavings. Sew them and close them so that the chips do not loose inside the casing.
Fill your pillowcases with the cedar bags and the dense foam squares. Add in the matching Velcro, sticking your back to the hem edge of the bed casing. Keep the case tight by closing both sides of Velcro. You can also use very large sew-on snaps if you do not want to use Velcro. Use enough through the hem to keep the sides closed when the dog gets into bed.
