How Big is the Mid Century King Bed Frame

Mid Century King Bed Frame – During a couple drawn into a double bed, or too confined to a queen, an extra-large bed is the stuff of fantasy: acres of space to turn around in; the ability for you (and your partner) to sleep flat on your back; space for children to snuggle in the morning without being pushed aside. But how big is an extra-large bed, really?

There are two types of extra-large mattresses: standard and California. Sheets and bed bases for standard and California king beds are not interchangeable, as they differ in length and width. An extra-large standard mattress is 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. A Calif. king mattress is longer by four inches (84 inches) long, however narrower by four inches (72 inches wide). Extra-large mattresses vary in depth from about 9 inches for memory-foam models or low-end springs, to 17 inches or more for luxury pillow-top models.

If you live in an apartment or a small house, an extra-large bed cannot fit comfortably in your room. When measuring the bedroom, remember to add several inches around the bed to take into account the width of the headboard, foot, and rails (get exact measurements for the bedroom you want in the store while you are shopping). You will also want to leave at least 2 feet of space on each side of the bed so that you and your partner can get in and out easily.
